No H8 Campaign

So I recently had my photograph taken to show my support for the No H8 Campaign. Fantastic photographer Adam Bouska is one of the masterminds behind the campaign and takes the photographs.

About the No H8 Campaign:

On November 4, 2008 Proposition 8 passed in California, amending the state Constitution to ban same-sex marriage. The defeat provoked a groundswell of initiative within the GLBT community at a grassroots level, with many new political and protest organizations being formed in response.

The NOH8 Campaign is a photographic silent protest created by celebrity photographer Adam Bouska (http://www.bouska.net) and partner Jeff Parshley in direct response to the passage of Proposition 8. Photos feature subjects with duct tape over their mouths, symbolizing their voices being silenced by Prop 8 and similar legislation around the world, with "NOH8" painted on one cheek in protest.

Nearly one year since its inception, the NOH8 Campaign has grown to over 2,000 faces and continues to grow at an exponential rate. The campaign began with portraits of everyday Californians from all walks of life and soon rose to include politicians, military personnel, newlyweds, law enforcement, artists, celebrities, and many more.

The NOH8 Campaign has received overwhelming support from around the world, appearing on various local and national news programs and publications. The images are currently being used on various social networking sites to spread the message of equality, predominantly Facebook and Twitter. Eventually the images are expected to be compiled for a large-scale media campaign.

Funds raised by the NOH8 Campaign will be used to continue promoting and raising awareness for Marriage Equality and anti-discrimination on a global level through an educational and interactive media campaign.

Camera Upgrade

Well. I've decided to take my photography to the next level.

I want to get into more model/portrait photography, and capture the human body in its element and artistic ways.

To celebrate this inspiring new turn I decided to upgrade my equipment. I found a buyer for my canon xti and with the money I went to Nikon.

I bought a Nikon D300, with a 50mm f/1.8 lens and a 17-50mm Tamron wide angle lens. I also bought the Nikon SB900 flash and upgraded my tripod.

This was a long time coming and I'm excited to see the difference and see how my creativity can expand now I'm not held back by equipment.

I shot a 20 sec exposure, after a couple seconds I ran out and sat on the stairs and someone shot off their flash a couple times.

This was a row of candy canes outside a house in Laguna Beach on Friday night. (Dec 5 2008).

I had never tried my hand at the whole zooming thing, sure there is a technical term.

San Diego Photo Forum

So I recently got involved in a San Diego based online photographer's forum. When I'm not doing my full time job, or out and about taking photos I'm moderating for this forum.

I've met some great photographers and made some great friends. The site has a monthly group shoots, competitions and a 52 weeks project.

The talent ranges from people who just bought a camera to photograph their families to professional full time photographers.

There is some great talent on there and everyone is open minded and eager to learn and teach.
